5 Acres of Serenity
Day 1: The Family Works Together
On July 26th, we signed the final papers to purchase our property. 5 Acres of Serenity was born.
You stand in the three feet tall weeds in front of the house, and all you can hear are birds chirping. There’s no traffic sounds, no people gathering right on the other side of the yard to go to church, glancing your way.
Now, don’t get me wrong, there is a TON of work to be done before we are actually able to move in. For example, the investment company that purchased the property from the state a few years ago drove a piece of machinery over the septic tank and caved the lid in.
Their solution was to fill it up with dirt and leave it. Project for day 1: digging out the septic tank so that it could be inspected and fixed.
Never in my wildest imagination did I think my sixteen-year-old child would volunteer to jump on in and help. Not once did he complain. It was hot and humid, as it often is here in Florida. He worked like a champ until we told him to stop and take a break.
The next project was to rip out the wood paneling in the master bedroom, which really isn’t a true master bedroom.
