When you’ve taken a long break from writing, it can be extremely hard to start again. I’ve struggled with this over and over again.

I try to remember where I left off, and usually the excitement for that project has gone by the wayside. Guilt eats at me that I’ve waited so long before opening back up the laptop. I start doubting myself and my writing.

Through the years though, I’ve found several different steps that have helped me get back into the groove.

First step is to contact an accountability partner and get them on board with you.

Having an accountability partner is a huge help. Not only will they push you when you need that push, but they can help you remain excited about the project you’re working on. When you hit slumps, it gives you someone to bounce ideas off of to get you back on track.

Second step is to create your own writing space.

Everyone needs different things when it comes to their writing space. Some people enjoy writing in coffee shops, some like to play music, others need silence.
