A Boy and His Tractor
Unplugging from life to create memories
As a parent or grandparent it’s easy to get sucked into buying the latest and greatest toys. You see something in the store and think, “Oh my gosh I’ve got to get this for them!”
Or, even worse, you plan out the perfect vacation and spend thousands of dollars taking your child or the kids to some destination you think will be great.
The truth of the matter is its all a waste of money.
Let me give you an example.
Growing up my parents took us on numerous vacations every year. Once a year was either Disneyland or the San Diego Zoo and once a year was Pajaro Dunes. Sprinkled in were smaller trips to go visit relatives.
Looking back as an adult I remember loving the roller coasters but hated the walking and waiting at Disney. That’s literally all I remember. I don’t remember anything about the San Diego Zoo. What I do remember? Waking up and being so excited to go look for shells at the beach. I remember the hours of building sand castles and searching for things to decorate them with. I can still feel the grit of sand in my mouth when my little hands were holding the peanut butter sandwich we’d brought down with us. After spending hours at the beach we’d go back to the condo and build forts and play card games.
