A Weekend Away

I tried to take a weekend away. Away from writing, away from reality.

But the truth is, reality exists no matter where you are. As I sit here in the state that only months ago I left, simple things remind me how every place has a sense of beauty to it.

Here, in Louisiana, everything is green and lush. It was one of the first things I noticed when I moved here. This morning I sat on my friend’s back patio sipping my coffee and listening to the birds chirp.

The simplicity of it all reminded me of exactly what it is that I’m reaching for and that sitting around drinking coffee wasn’t moving forward at all. Still, I took that moment for me.

The reality of the matter is that regardless of where I am, my dream will always be there and thanks to technology, there’s always something I can be doing in order to move forward with my goals.

Take a look around. Find a few things that you love. Maybe they make you smile, maybe they drudge up good memories from your past. Find something beautiful. It’s there. Sometimes you just have to open up your eyes and look. Do one thing extra today in order to move forward, but also take a moment for yourself. You won’t regret it.
