Camp Nano Begins
Today is the first day of Camp Nanowrimo, and I’m already feeling like I’m drowning.
This is my fault. I blew it, but it’s not too late to fix it. How did I blow it? Lack of preparation.
I had an idea in mind for the novel I wanted to start, but as March began to wind down, I started thinking about my idea.
The publisher I want to submit to is focused on romance, hence, that is what I am going to write. But, it seems as though every single romance has been done before.
I’m struggling to come up with a concept that is new. Boy meets girl, romance struggles, boy falls in love with girl, romance struggles, HEA. Right?
So, since it has pretty much all been done before, the question is, what issues can I throw in there that are unique and not found in every other romance out there?
I know, I know. Not all romances are the same. Trust me. I know.
I read about five books a week which is hundreds of books a year. I’ve done this for over twenty years which makes it thousands and thousands of books read.
I’m not bragging, I’m merely pointing out that I am a well-read individual. I’ve ready a ton of romance as well as other genres, and although each one has a slightly different twist to them, after hundreds of them, they all tend to follow that same general guideline.
Which is fine.
But not fine when it comes to sitting down to write something unique and different.
So, as the moon rises on this first day of Camp Nano, here I sit, looking for inspiration. I guess I’ll spend some time trying to find a photo that sparks some sort of idea.
The writing struggle is real!
