Clear The Chaos
A Life Lesson For The Overwhelmed
I’ve learned a lot over the past two decades.
Raising two boys, working two jobs, going to school… the list goes on and on. This isn’t me complaining, it’s merely explaining that I’ve made it through a lot.
There have been times that everything around me seems overwhelming. I stand there frozen, looking around, not knowing where to start. I’ve gotten to the point where I want to just throw in the towel and run away from it all.
Recently, that has happened twice at work.
Working through the holiday season in retail can be trying in the best of times. Twice now, I’ve walked into the stockroom to find chaos ensuing.
Employees were frustrated, standing there not knowing where to start, how to proceed. Every where you looked, boxes were everywhere. Both times, a member of management ran out of the room in tears.
The lesson I’ve tried to put forth to not only my management team, but the employees as well is that you have to clear the chaos.
What does that mean?
You can’t work if you can’t move. If you don’t have room to function, you won’t go anywhere. Clear space. Even if it is in your mind.
