What Do You Do With Fresh Produce?
As my garden season is kicking off, the excitement of picking fresh vegetables is with me every day. But, then the thought occurs…what exactly do I do with them?
As inflation rises through this year, I swore that I wouldn’t let anything I grow go to waste. I want to use everything to its fullest capacity. I spent about $50 in seeds and about $50 in dirt amendments, so will I be able to recoup that money?
It starts today.
I walked out to the squash garden, not knowing what I’d find. It’s been raining for several days so I hadn’t been out to check to see if anything was even growing. Well, if you’ve ever grown squash, you know how quickly they grow and can get away from you so I was thrilled when I saw this beautiful yellow squash growing and it was the perfect picking size.
If I were to go to the store near me and buy one of these, it would cost me $1.48 per pound. The packet of seeds cost me $2.29.
I cut the squash, brought it in, washed it and weighed it. Weighing in at .71 pounds, this squash is worth$1.05. Doesn’t seem like much, right? Except, there are three more…
