Fighting The Rollercoaster That Is My Savings Account

This past year has been a rollercoaster for my family. I got a new job, a much better paying job, and then we’ve had several emergencies come up. I’ve watched my savings account grow into the thousands, and then dwindle to just a few dollars several times.

It’s frustrating to say the least.

This past week has been one of those weeks where it seems like every day I’m hit with something. The bad part is, it’s always someone else that I’m having to bail out.

I’ve got two adult children who are on their own. One was out of work for a while and his truck broke down. The other is working a minimum paying job, and then lost two weeks of work due to Covid.

Every day it seems one of them is reaching out to me saying, “Mom, I hate to ask this but…”

Then there’s my husband, the love of my life. He is what you would refer to as an ‘impulse spender’. He refuses to save up money to buy something he wants, he just buys it. Every month it’s the same thing. By the end of the month he’s like, “My paycheck is all going to bills and there’s nothing left” when the reality of it is if he didn’t spend a bunch of money, there’d be plenty left!

Instead of throwing my hands up in the air, I’m using this as a motivator.
