Finding Christmas Spirit

Right now I feel very much like the reindeer in the picture, looking around. Christmas is right around the corner, yet the spirit I normally feel is nowhere to be found.

I know what’s causing it. With the pandemic roaring through the country and the uncertainty that brings, I haven’t taken any extra time off in months. Working in retail during the holidays is rough and it’s taking a toll on me. As people are coming in doing their Christmas shopping, I’m busy restocking the store.

By the time I get off, the last thing I want to do is go shopping. Money is tight which makes the thought of spending it sending me into an anxiety spiral. On top of that, our house is still not done. That means no kitchen. No oven in which to make Christmas cookies. Our living room is small and stacked with things we don’t have any room elsewhere to store. If we were to put up our Christmas tree, it’s going to have to go in front of the front door.

Our kids are older now. When you have young kids, it is exciting to watch them rip into their presents and play with their new toys. Now, what the kids want are super expensive or clothes. That’s not very exciting.

I need to find my Christmas spirit. I need to find a way to make this Christmas memorable so that looking back I can remember how we made it through a chaotic Christmas with love and laughter.
