Goals, Not Resolutions

Every year, I look back on the previous year to see where I failed and where I succeeded. This helps me plan my yearly goals.

This past year was a bit of a crap shoot. I wouldn’t say it wasn’t a success, because in many ways it was. It laid down the foundation for what I want to achieve in 2021.

But while most people make resolutions, I do not. I make goals. What’s the difference?

Goals are adjustable.

I take my yearly goals and break them down into monthly goals and then further into weekly goals, daily goals, hourly goals.

But each day, each week, and each month, I take a moment to look back on the previous. Was there something I wanted to accomplish that I didn’t? Does it need to be added to my present week? Is it something I want to adjust or no longer want to do?

This year I’m reaching for the impossible.

Last year we got chickens. Not only did they provide us eggs, but we also had enough to share with the neighbors. That was my goal. But, I also was able to start selling enough to my coworkers to pay for the chicken feed.

This year, we are going to get more chickens, sell a few of the ones we have, and hopefully increase the amount of eggs we sell.
