Half For Me, Half For You
The Joy of Sharing
I am absolutely loving being able to go out to the garden each day to see what I could harvest. There is something that is so fulfilling to know that what I grew will help feed my family.
But that is not the best part. Not by far.
The best part, the part that makes me know that I am doing exactly what I am meant to do, is being able to share what we grow with our elderly neighbors.
I’ve been watching our watermelon patch for months now. I watched it flower, and grinned as I looked at the itty-bitty melons growing. I checked it daily as those melons grew and grew. Finally, I couldn’t wait any longer.
With snips in hand, I made my way down to the watermelon patch. I placed my hand on the sun-warmed melon and my mouth started watering. I snipped it off and carried it on my shoulder up to the house.
As I brought it into our house, I knew that between my husband and I, we could demolish this in a matter of two days. We both love watermelon, and it was our very first one out of the garden.
I grabbed the largest knife we had and sliced the melon in half. It was huge. Immediately, the entire kitchen smelled like watermelon. Right away, I knew what I was going to do.
