He’s Here… Yet So Far Away

With the Corona virus looming all around us, my husband and I have honestly lucked out. We have a very low mortgage, five acres of land to roam around on, and peace surrounding us. The company I work for is continuing to pay me as of right now even though I am quarantined at home. On top of that, my husband is an essential employee, still working and earning a pay check.

I know how blessed and lucky we are. I really do.

Because of my health, it is imperative that I do not catch this virus or it could be deadly for me.

This is why my husband has self-quarantined himself in our shed.

That’s right. My husband is living in our shed.

With nine baby chickens.

In the morning, he strips down to a towel, dons a mask, grabs the Lysol spray and Chlorox wipes and comes in to use the shower. He spends several minutes, disinfecting his way back out of the house. I make him coffee and breakfast, and deliver it to the table we have set outside in the carport.

The shed is literally about twenty feet away from our house, but when he is in there, and I’m standing at the back door staring at it, the distance between us feels more like miles.

We can still chat over coffee… from ten feet away.
