Holding On Through Medium’s Changes

Every platform changes over time, and it was Medium’s turn at the end of last month. How did it go?

Well, for me the first few days showed promise. I was excited being able to see what I made each and every day versus having to wait until the end of the month. That is great.

The stats are awesome. You can see how many views, reads, fans, and the reader time for each story.

It amazed me how many older stories were being viewed and read and was a good reminder that having a backlog of work for viewers and fans to read is a huge benefit here.

The downside:

I’m not even making a dollar a day. My fans are down, reads are holding steady, I’m publishing daily and doing what I can to promote my posts. I’m staying as active on the platform as I can each and every day.

It’s honestly a little discouraging.

I’m not knocking it. Every penny helps to pay down my car loan.

I have to keep reminding myself that with every major change there are always bumps in the road.
