I Almost Crashed Today
The last few days have been an emotional rollercoaster. I’m not going into details here. Needless to say, the stress of what I’m going through has wiped me out. On top of that, it has taken my sleep away.
I toss and turn and finally manage to catch an hour of sleep, only to wake up and not be able to relax enough to once again close my eyes.
That doesn’t change the fact that I have to work. After two nights getting a combined 3 1/2 hours of sleep, I got behind the wheel this morning and headed out.
I would have been fine if I lived somewhat close to work. The problem is, I live 40 miles away. Most of that is a long stretch of highway with no traffic. By the time I actually hit town, my chin was doing the nodding thing.
I rolled down the window.
I leaned over the steering wheel.
I did everything I could to stay awake.
Then my body jerked and I opened my eyes to find that I had drifted out of my lane. Luckily, there was no one in the lane next to me, and the adrenaline coursing through my veins kept my eyes open for the remainder of the trip.
That was just my morning.
I still had to work a 9 hour shift.
