Do you have a plan?

It’s November 1, 2021 and National Novel Writing Month starts today.

Are you ready?

Over the past week, I’ve cleaned off my desk, went over my novel’s outline, and organized my thoughts as far as what I was going to work on.

I am not one of those who plan on busting out an unreadable pile of poop in a month, so every year when I attempt NaNoWriMo, I struggle.

And That’s Okay.

This year though, I’ve planned out my first week so that I have given myself the best chance at finding success. In October, I barely wrote 14,000 words. I’d really like to make it so that on any average month I’m writing 40,000 words, so I’m treating NaNoWriMo as a way to build up my routines.

So, what is my plan?

This month I want to finish the short novel I started. I need roughly 30,000 words to do that. For the other 20,000 words, I plan on writing a few short stories, some that will link to the novel, others that will not.

The other thing I really want to focus on this month is posting here on Medium every day. Over the past month, I’ve slacked off a bit since the numbers are so dismal, but I need to remind myself that the numbers are not why I enjoy writing on this platform.
