Listen To Your Body
Are You Hearing What It’s Telling You?
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become much wiser when it comes to certain things. You hear the adage “With age comes wisdom” and in many ways it’s true.
When it comes to your body, the true wisdom comes not from hearing what your body is telling you, but truly listening to it and responding accordingly.
Every ache, pain and sickness tells you something. Sometimes it’s just like your muscles saying, “Holy crap! You haven’t used me in a while.” Other times they’re screaming, “Whoa! Too far!”
The trick is to be attuned enough to your own body to understand what they are telling you.
Getting older stinks, but I’ve learned over the years to pay attention to what my body is trying to tell me, and to base my decisions on what would be best.
For example:
I’ve been seriously sick for the past week. Finally, the meds seem to be working and I woke up for the first time with a sense of being able to function. Great, right?
Within ten minutes of me getting up and taking the dog outside to do his business, my entire body was shaking. My younger self would have gotten dressed and pushed on through today, but now I’m a bit wiser.
