Medium in August?

I know all websites change, that’s just part of life. So, as much as this may be somewhat of a rant, I’m not bashing Medium, I’m just frustrated.

When I started writing on Medium years ago, things were great. I started out making $12 a month and worked my way up into the hundreds.

Then Medium changed the way they paid writers. When it changed from story engagement to time read, my earnings plummeted.

I think my worst month, where I wasn’t writing a lot I dipped down to less than $2.

For the last few months I’ve worked my tail off to up my writing on Medium, and I was once again gaining a little traction. Last month I made it back up to $14. Not great, but I was okay with that.

Then, at the beginning of August Medium rolled out a new program which paid a certain group of people a set minimum amount. I was not in the group, and I was okay with it. I didn’t think it would affect me at all. So what if I wasn’t making a set minimum? As long as I kept doing what I was doing, and increasing the time and energy I devoted to Medium, I should be able to maintain or even increase my views and reads. Right?

Nope!
