Picture Prompts
A picture says a thousand words, right?
The question is, what words will they say?
When I’m tired or stressed, it’s hard to formulate story ideas. That’s where picture prompts come into play. Sometimes just typing in random words into a free stock photo site will pull up a picture that makes me think.
Two of my favorite sites to peruse are https://unsplash.com/ and https://www.pexels.com/
That’s the trick. Find a picture that makes you wonder why that picture was even taken. Take this picture for instance. Why is that man in the woods? What could be in that paper that is worth burning? What led him to the situation?
Immediately ideas come flying into my head, and that’s the key time. Don’t wait. Start writing. If you wait, the inspiration will leave and not return so use it to your advantage.
I’ve promised myself 100 days of writing, 100 posts posted here on Medium. Since I have a lot going on, I have a feeling I am going to be relying on a lot of picture prompts.
Starting now.
How about you?
You ever get stuck? Ideas not flowing? What do you do? Have you tried working from picture prompts?
I’d love to hear your stories. I’d love to hear how you get through your slumps.
