Preparing For The Fall Garden

While summer is only half over, and I’m still picking fresh fruit and veggies out of the garden, the time has come to look forward to the fall.

I have a small garden and want to make the most out of it. I have enough time to do another full batch of green bean plants, so that will go in during the next week.

Tomato plants that are struggling will be pulled and some replaced with new tomato plants, but some beds will start getting prepped for the actual fall garden.

The time has come for me to look into what exactly I want to plant. I need to order broccoli and cauliflower seeds along with lettuce and kale. In the next couple of months I will need to order garlic.

Besides seeds, there are other things to consider. Row covers in order to protect the fall crops from bug damage will need to be ordered, soil amendments to add to the beds to refresh the soil, new trays to start seeds in over the winter.

A lot of people only garden during the summer. I used to be one of those people. Now I have the opportunity to grow food year-round and I am going to take full advantage of it.
