Publishing Short Stories on Amazon?

Something New I’m Trying In 2023

As I’m starting the new year and looking to see how I can increase my side hustle income, a new idea popped into my mind. I looked into it, and I may try it. As you most likely guessed from the title, I’m going to try to start publishing some short stories on Amazon.

I’ve looked them up on Amazon and there is a market out there for them. The goal wouldn’t be to make a ton of money off them, but to get me back in the habit of writing, and dipping my toes into the self-publishing world.

It would be a learning experience. I’d love to make a few extra dollars off them, but even if I sold one, I’d be thrilled.

I know there are times that I’m somewhere and only have five or ten minutes to kill and it is nice to be able to read something quick in that time frame. I’ve written short stories in the past and really had fun doing it, so it’ll give me the motivation to get back into it.

My plan is for the month of January to spend two weeks writing the story and two weeks to get it edited, make a cover and work out all the kinks of publishing it on Amazon.

The thing I’m really not looking forward to is the marketing part. I’m horrible at putting myself out there. It’s going to be an adventure, for sure!

If you’ve self published, I’d love to hear whatever advise you are willing to share! What mistakes have you made? What worked, what didn’t? What would you have done differently?

Also, if you’ve self published a short story, comment with a link to it so I can check it out! I’m always on the lookout for new authors to read!
