I’ve found myself running myself ragged, trying to accomplish everything on my list before the season gets away from me. I wake up on my days off, make a list and spend my entire day checking things off.

There’s a problem with this.

When you have a new project (for us it’s our property) the urge to go go go is huge. You want to get it done and complete. This is fine for small projects, but when it comes to larger projects that will take months if not years, if you push yourself without stopping along the way, you miss out on enjoying the process.

Our goal is to clear as much land as we can, build a workshop, plant fruit trees, finish a large garden and start growing and harvesting as much food as we can.

Each step along the way though is something to celebrate. Sitting down and taking a look back at your hard work makes you more grateful for everything you’ve accomplished.

Sure, we are not nearly as far as we’d like to be, but we are enjoying the process. We take the time to spend quality moments together and talk about our dreams and how far we have already come.

There are times that we have to remind each other that this isn’t a race. It’s a marathon. By moving forward at a steady pace, and stopping to rest when needed allows us to keep up the excitement, the thrill, and the momentum.
