Thanksgiving Traditions

Every holiday in my house while growing up was steeped in traditions. Looking back, I loved those traditions and knew exactly what to expect every year.

Once I started my own family, those traditions changed, yet I wish they never did.

Every Thanksgiving my aunts, uncles, and cousins would fill our house. There was chaos everywhere, yet everything ran smoothly. Us kids would separate in different rooms and play games while the adults each had their own chores in order to get ready for dinner.

I miss those days.

Now, it’s just the four of us for Thanksgiving. And I’m okay with that. The boys play video games, and my husband starts the turkey. The only thing I’m responsible for is the side dishes which we keep very simple; mashed potatoes, gravy, Stovetop stuffing, greenbeans, and carrots, and of course pumpkin pie.

Oh, and you can’t forget the nasty can of jellied cranberry sauce! (Yuck)

We also get a much larger turkey than we need to so that we can share it with the next door neighbors.

The first year we were in our house we had no oven and my husband barbequed not only the turkey but the pie. It was one of the best turkeys we’ve ever had.
