Cell phones these days are almost a ‘must have’ item.
Sure, you could do without. But is it safe? Back in the day, before cell phones, if your car ran out of gas, you sat on the side of the road until someone stopped to help you. Either, they’d go get gas for you, or take you to get gas. Now, it’s not safe for either party. You don’t know who you are stopping for when you see someone stuck on the side of the road…
