The Joy of Sunflowers

We bought our property exactly one year ago. I had big dreams about all of the things we could do with it. This year, along with growing a lot of fruit and vegetables, I really wanted to grow some flowers.

I bought about twenty different kinds of flower seeds. I was so excited about them. I waited and waited and nothing.

Nope. Not a single seed germinated.

I’m not sure what happened. I had no problem with the herbs, veggies, and fruit, yet not a single flower. The last pack I had was a sunflower mix. This was it, my last chance.

I opened up the pack, only to find that most of the seeds were broken or crunched. I can’t even begin to describe the disappointment that flowed through me. I took those seeds, walked over next to my squash garden and threw them.

There was no rhyme or reason as to why I threw them where I did. I opened up the pack in our carport, walked forward ten feet and chucked them.

I didn’t water them. I didn’t look to see if they had germinated. Weeds flourished in that area, yet before I knew it, there were six or seven that began to stand much taller than the rest.

Before I knew it, they were over three feet tall. Every day I would go out to the carport and sit down. There, right in front of me, was the potential of beauty. As the days…
