Sophie stared out the window watching the dark mass of clouds watch move across the sky. There goes the afternoon. She sighed and turned towards her grandma.

“What’s wrong, Sugar?”

“There’s nothing to do. I wanted to play outside but it looks like it’s about to dump. I hate this.”

Maple looked at her grand daughter’s pouty little lips and smiled. “Sugar, not all things are as they seem. Come with me.” She held her hand out and waited until Sophie pressed her palm against hers.

She led Sophie to the entryway and opened up the closet. “Now, my Mama always said, if you want to find sunshine, sometimes you have to make it.” From the top shelf she took down a box and pulled out a yellow rain jacket.

“Take this jacket out to your playhouse out back. Put it on and think about where you want to be, what you want to be doing.”

Sophie took the jacket from her grandma and opened the back door. Once again, her eyes rose to the dark sky.

“What if it starts dumping rain?”

“Then your jacket will protect you.”

Sophie ran outside, taking deep breaths of the fresh air. The first raindrop landed on her nose and she ran faster to make it to her playhouse. As soon as she was inside the sky let loose.
