The Purpose of Goals

I do not make any resolutions for the new year. Why? Because resolutions are set in stone. In my opinion that is why so many people fail at sticking to them. One false move and BAM! Failure.

Instead, I make goals. Goals can be adjusted as needed and when needed. Goals give you a target to aim for and every step you take should be moving towards that target.

I am a very goal-oriented person.

Goals drive me to push my boundaries and get me moving when normally I wouldn’t be. Take today for instance. I’m tired and have to get ready to head to work. I really want to spend this next hour doing nothing other than watch some TV and relax before heading to Hell.

But, I have my goals, and I have reminders in every single room. In my bedroom is my laptop sitting ON my bed. I cannot look at it without thinking about the fact that I haven’t written anything today, and I need to. In the living room, I have a box with seeds in it right under the television. That way when I sit down to watch TV, I see that box and know that I need to get outside and get some work done. In the kitchen I purposely leave out the broom and a bottle of cleaner. Just a reminder so that any time I go get a drink or something to eat, I am reminded that I have some deep cleaning to do.
