I planned a vacation that is supposed to start tomorrow, September 26th. This has been planned for months. My life is crazy, chaotic, and stressful. I’m not exaggerating when I say I NEED this vacation for the sake of my mental health.

I’ve been working overtime at a job I abhor just so that I could take one extra day off and escape from the craziness of life with my husband.

Now there’s hurricane Helene.

I live in the panhandle of Florida, and the vacation is on the east coast of Florida. We are supposed to leave tomorrow morning and drive across the state, directly through the path of where a category 3 hurricane is supposed to make landfall merely hours later.

Even as I type this, the clouds are increasing and the air is growing heavy. If you live in the south you know exactly how that feels. While there’s usually no breeze where I’m at, the palm trees are slightly swaying, as if taunting what’s about to occur.

My stress is through the roof. We are leaving behind our two boys who are in their early 20s, my 1 year old grandson and the dogs. We have prepared them the best we could. They have a shelter, a generator and enough gas to run it for three days. There’s food, water…
