To The Writers on Medium I Follow, I Apologize

I joined here on Medium back in 2018, and I absolutely loved it. I still love it, but recently I’ve noticed that it seems to be missing something. I don’t feel the excitement I once felt. I scratched my head trying to figure it out.

And then I did.

The thing I love most about this platform is that we are a community. We are writers. We have things in common. We follow the people whose stories move us, touch us, make us think.

That’s what is missing now.

Now, when I pull open Medium, my page is filled with stories from people I don’t necessarily know or care about. Not to say that the stories aren’t worth reading, but I miss my pack.

I follow a few hundred people. There’s a reason for that. I don’t just follow anyone. Those people write stories I enjoy, stories that move me. Maybe they write How-to articles that I find helpful or interesting.

I don’t see any of those stories any more.

Now, all the people I follow show up in little bubbles with tinier bubbles with tinsy-tiny numbers in them.

So, to the writers I follow, I sincerely apologize. I should have been diligent in searching you out.

For the next week or two, the only stories that I am going to read on Medium are those that my pack has written. I may sprinkle in a few extras here and there, but my pack will receive the majority.

I’m sorry I didn’t realize this sooner. Medium has grown by leaps and bounds and us tiny fishes have to stick together.

Please, accept my apology! I’m off to read!
