Toilet Paper Woes

When I go to the grocery store I’ve never had to worry about what I would do if there was a shortage of an item. Now, when it comes to natural disasters like hurricanes, you fully expect shortages. People prepare and stock up on water, canned goods, and bread.

Sounds reasonable, right?

It boggles my mind though that this year there is suddenly a toilet paper shortage. I don’t understand why people are suddenly hoarding something out of sheer panic that in the big picture isn’t going to help keep their family alive.

Back in March, you would see people buying hundreds of rolls at a time.

Seriously?

How much toilet paper do you go through?

We try to keep two months worth of supplies, and right now we are running a little low, but we are not panicking. We know our family goes through roughly a roll a day. That means that right now we have forty-eight days to find some more.

What are the chances that we won’t be able to find some in those six weeks? Slim to none.

It makes me wonder if it is just Americans who are doing this. Are other countries suddenly freaking out about toilet paper?

I’m more concerned about feeding my family and keeping the heat on if everything shuts down.

And then I start to wonder, do people actually let their toilet paper run out before buying more? I can’t imagine sitting down on the toilet and wondering if we even had any.

We always do.

So, don’t panic. Don’t hoard. Buy what you need, perhaps get one extra. There is no need to clear the shelves just because everyone else is.

This is so ridiculous!
