Why Do You Write?

What’s the “why” behind your passion?

As a writer who posts on sites such as here on Medium, it’s easy to get stuck in the here and now. You spend time writing something and more time editing it and then sit back. The notifications ping on your phone and you’re happy that people are reading and engaging with what you wrote. That’s fantastic, but does that align with what your goals are?

Short Term Goals vs. Long Term Goals

Right now I’m focusing on only two things.

  1. Being more consistent when it comes to writing
  2. Increasing my readership, engagement, and networking

As much as I love to write for the past few years life has gotten in the way. I’ve missed it terribly but other things had to take priority. Now I finally have enough breathing room to get back into my passion.

I thrive on routine. It’s going to take me a while to figure out the best way to fit writing into my crazy schedule so there will be a lot of trial and error. I made a promise to myself though that each week I would find at least two days in which I can sit down and work on it.

The consistency of writing and posting will help my readership increase, but I also need to make the time to engage with other writers and have conversations with them…
